Top Schools Told To Beef Up Inclusion
Dennis Walcott, chancellor of the city’s Department of Education, said the schools must increase the number of students with disabilities to the level seen at other area high schools. New York City’s most prized public schools are strikingly devoid of students with disabilities. The move comes as enrollment of those with special needs at 11 elite high schools numbered three or fewer students last year. It’s unclear if low enrollment of students with disabilities is because such students aren’t applying or because they are not being admitted.
