Crime Odds Nearly Double For People With Disabilities
The US department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Statistics, during the year 2010, shows Americans with disabilities of age 12 and older experience more than 567000 nonfatal violent crimes like robbery, rape and assault. Though the crime against them had decreased 25 percent as compared to the previous year which saw 753000 crimes, the individuals with disabilities continue to be victimized disproportionately. 17 percent of the victims believe that disability was the reason for why they were targeted. People with cognitive disabilities also experience the same problem. Women victims are slightly more than men victims in the list.
