This Child

  by Nancy Dilkey

This child recognized by all around town. He's usually
screaming , frustrated, trying to calm down.

Surroundings overtake the control which he lacks, while his
parents are patient, never quick to give up or over-react.

The stares, the whispers from the misinformed few, all jump to the rescue
speaking their view. Do they realize the struggle, the tears of rearing a
     child in constant high gears?

No one (except mam and dad) understand the battle of denial
or comprehend the agony of accepting the trial.

Wrestling with doubt or battling the guilt, dreams are forsaken as
     expectations wilt.

Denial lingers while reality remains, watching this child in emotional pain.

ADD,Hyper, tactile defensive, Yes these children are usually aggressive
and yet there exist a glimmer of hope, as many of these kids are brighter
     than most.

So one day this child who couldn't sit still ( the one who was often
labeled a "pill" ) You'll recognize his name or read about his fame.

Share in his success, this child from God so blessed, who couldn't learn
or seem to progress has now overcome the challenge and grief with
     parents who never abandoned belief.
