10 States Win Waivers From No Child Left Behind Law

10 states won approval from the U.S. Department of Education to bypass key components of the federal No Child Left Behind education law. Those states are Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, Oklahoma and Tennesse. This is good news for our kids; it’s good news for our country, said President Barack Obama. New Mexico was the only state that didn’t receive a waiver among the first 11 states that applied in November.

Sarah Palin On Ups And Downs Of Son’s Disability

“Many everyday activities like doctor’s appointments and social gatherings and travel accommodations and even mealtimes and a solid night of sleep are that much more difficult, but at the end of the day I wouldn’t trade the relative difficulties for any convenience or absence of fear,” Palin continues. “We went from fear of the unknown to proudly displaying a bumper sticker sent to us that reads: ‘My kid has more chromosomes than your kid!’”

McDonald’s Owner Sued For Alleged Disability Discrimination

Derrick Morgan worked at the Oakhurst, Calif. McDonald’s since 2006 and became a floor supervisor in 2008. Alia Corporation bought the restaurant in 2009 and Morgan was demoted because of his disability due to cerebral palsy. Morgan had to quit due to significant drop in income. U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has filed a lawsuit alleging that Alia Corporation violated the Americans With Disabilities Act and claimed back pay as well as punitive and compensatory damages for Morgan.
